The Garden Pots

February 21, 2013

So here's the sequel to my last post about the spray painted elephants - the garden pots. This time I  made over 2 pots which were left in the garden by the house's previous owners and admittedly, I was going to give them away until I discovered the wonders of spray paint...Here is how they looked before, in all their brown glory:

A good clean, followed by 2 coats of primer and then 2 coats of white gloss spray paint and they were done.  I'm now really happy I didn't give these pots away given that they are both quite big and solid, as buying new ones would have cost a lot more than a couple of cans of spray paint! The white makeover makes both pots look really clean and fresh, don't you think? This was my first time using spray paint on ceramic pots so I'll be interested to see how they weather.  I've always been wary of painting pots when they'll be outside all the time, but so far I think this could be the start of a new obsession!

If you are interested in the tealight and candles, the aqua tealight was from Lincraft a couple of years ago but you can get similar here. The large pillar candle is from IKEA, and I placed it in an empty Moccona coffee jar with black decorative pebbles from The Reject Shop in the bottom. The yellow and white citronella candle pot is from Freedom - part of their summer range, but there still might be some in store :)

    1. Thanks, Tina! The great thing about the Freedom candle is that the pot can be used for something else once the candle is finished ;)

  3. LOVE it! It is just amazing how much better they look in white and all the textured parts of them really become and asset rather than a liability to the pots, don't you think? It looks terrific!!

  6. Hey I like the coffee jar idea - I have heaps of these in a box waiting patiently while I decided what to do with them. The pots looks great, what did we do before spraypaint?! Lisa xo

    1. I've got heaps of Moccona jars that I've done the same thing with. They also make really good vases and storage containers because there is no decoration or branding on the glass!

  7. Wow what a difference the spray paint makes, looks fantastic. I recently got given a huge pot (I am talking up to my hip height) by a friend that they didn't want but I knew I could use it somehow, might have to try that spray paint. Thanks G
