The Pool: Decorating with Colour!

January 14, 2013

I have a good idea of how I would like to decorate the new pool/deck area but to help get my ideas sorted I thought I’d do a sort-of mood board. Will be interesting to see if what I put here actually ends up making the cut once the pool & deck is all done!

Colours
These are the colours I really like right now – I’m not normally a pink lover but I’m really into this vibrant fuchsia shade (which might read a bit purple on some monitors), probably because it goes so well with the aqua of the pool water. The yellow I just like because it looks so good with the blue and pink. The grey and white of the house’s exterior will keep everything calm and not too over the top.

Furniture
On the deck, we already have our 2 new sun lounges (which I will take a full photo of once the deck area is completely finished) – we travelled high and low for those things! As there is so much grey I wanted to have mostly white furniture on the deck, but this was easier said than done – there are varying shades of grey, black and brown sun lounges out there but be prepared for a search if you want white (the ones we did find were either crazy expensive or a creamy-beige colour). We got lucky in that the ones we found were not only white, but also incorporated the perfect shade of grey too (and even better, they were on sale).
Currently I’m on the lookout for an outdoor side table or two to add between the sun lounges, along with an umbrella, as the deck faces east and gets a lot of sun.

Accessories
This is where the colour comes in! I already have these pieces and don’t really need too many more, but I need to add the yellow in somewhere.
1. Black and white Sofia fabric (for cushions) – Ikea
2. Aqua Cockatoo cushion – The Brown Trading Co
3. Kino tray – Country Road
4. Blushing woven tumblers – Feather and Buzz

So that’s the plan/ideas for now. We finished adding plinth boards to the back end of the deck on Saturday, and gave them a coat of paint on Sunday, so there’s just another coat of paint to go and a gate to build before we can finish up and get the decorating done!
